✈️ BOS – Airport Guide
Logan International Airport, Boston MA
IATA Code: BOS | City: Boston, Massachusetts | Type: Major International Airport
Introduction
Boston Logan International Airport is one of the most storied airports in the United States. Sitting right on the edge of Boston Harbor, with stunning views of the city skyline and the Atlantic, Logan is a gateway to New England and a major hub for domestic and transatlantic travel. It’s busy, it’s occasionally chaotic, and it’s undeniably Boston — but if you know how to navigate it, Logan can actually be a surprisingly smooth experience.
As someone who calls Logan their home airport, I’ve spent more time here than I can count. Here’s everything you need to know.
🗺️ Airport Overview
Logan is divided into four terminals: A, B, C, and E.
| Terminal | Airlines |
|---|---|
| Terminal A | JetBlue (primary hub) |
| Terminal B | American Airlines, United |
| Terminal C | Delta (primary hub) |
| Terminal E | International flights, some domestic |
💡 Pro Tip: Terminals are connected airside after security, but the walk between B and E can be long, really long. Budget extra time if connecting.
🚗 Getting There
One of Logan’s biggest strengths is its accessibility from the city.
- 🚇 MBTA Silver Line — Free from all terminals to South Station; connects to the entire T network
- 🚇 Blue Line — Take the free Shuttle Bus (Route 22, 33, or 55) from terminals to Airport Station
- 🚕 Rideshare/Taxi — Convenient but expect traffic on the Sumner and Ted Williams Tunnels, especially during peak hours
- 🚗 Driving — Multiple parking garages on-site; Central Parking is the most convenient; book in advance
- 🚌 Logan Express — Bus service from Braintree, Framingham, Peabody, and Woburn for suburban travelers
⚠️ Warning: Traffic into the tunnels can add 30–60 minutes during rush hour. Always build in extra time.
🔒 Security
Logan has TSA PreCheck and CLEAR available at most terminals.
- Terminal A and C tend to have the fastest security lines
- Terminal E can back up significantly on international departure mornings
- Arrive 90 minutes early for domestic, 2.5–3 hours for international
- PreCheck lanes are well-staffed and move quickly
🍽️ Food & Drink
Logan has improved its dining options significantly in recent years.
Terminal A (JetBlue)
- Dunkin’ — Because you’re in Boston. Obviously.
- Legal Sea Foods — A Boston institution; great for a pre-flight lobster roll
- Cask ‘n Flagon — Sports bar with solid food and great beer selection
Terminal C (Delta)
- Bacaro — Italian-inspired, solid pasta and wine
- Yankee Lobster — Fresh seafood, a Logan staple
- Starbucks — Multiple locations
Terminal E (International)
- Legal Test Kitchen — Lighter, more experimental Legal Sea Foods concept
- Dunkin’ — Again, obviously
💡 Pro Tip: If you’re flying JetBlue out of Terminal A, arrive early enough to grab a meal at Legal Sea Foods — it’s genuinely one of the better airport dining experiences in the country.
🛍️ Shopping
- Hudson News — All terminals; good for books, snacks, and travel essentials
- InMotion Entertainment — Electronics and accessories
- Paradies Shops — Boston-themed gifts and souvenirs
- Brooks Brothers — Terminal C, for last-minute business travel needs
🛋️ Lounges
| Lounge | Terminal | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Sky Club | Terminal C | Delta status, Amex Platinum, day pass |
| American Admirals Club | Terminal B | AA status, Admirals Club membership |
| United Club | Terminal B | United status, Club membership |
| JetBlue Mint Studio | Terminal A | JetBlue Mint passengers only |
💡 Pro Tip: The Delta Sky Club at Logan is one of the better domestic Sky Clubs — good food, reasonable crowd levels outside of peak hours, and solid views of the tarmac.
💺 The Window Seat View
On approach into Logan, try to snag a window seat on the left side of the aircraft for one of the best urban approaches in the country.
- You’ll fly directly over Boston Harbor
- The city skyline fills the window on final approach
- On clear days you can see all the way to Cape Cod
- The runway extends into the harbor — the touchdown feels dramatic every time
On departure, the right side of the aircraft offers views of downtown Boston, the Charles River, and Cambridge as you climb out.
♿ Accessibility
- Wheelchair assistance available at all terminals — request at check-in
- Accessible restrooms throughout all terminals
- Hearing loops available at select gate areas
- Quiet rooms available in Terminal C and E for travelers who need a low-stimulation space
- Service animal relief areas in all terminals
🌙 Overnight at Logan
Logan is not ideal for overnight stays but manageable.
- Terminal C is the most comfortable for an overnight
- Seating is available 24/7 in most terminals
- No dedicated sleeping areas or pods
- Nearest hotels with shuttle service:
- Hilton Boston Logan Airport — Connected directly to Terminal E via walkway; most convenient option
- Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor — Short shuttle ride; great harbor views
- Marriott Courtyard Boston Logan — Budget-friendly, free shuttle

🏁 Final Verdict
Logan is a real airport in a real city, and it shows — both the good and the occasionally frustrating. The transit access is genuinely excellent for a major U.S. airport, the dining options are among the best in the country, and that approach over the harbor never gets old. Traffic into the tunnels is the biggest wildcard, but plan ahead and Logan treats you well.
If you’re flying through Boston, you could do a lot worse. And the lobster roll at Legal is worth the trip alone.
