Shopping for someone who’s always at the airport is harder than it looks. They already own a suitcase, they’ve got a drawer full of neck pillows that didn’t work, and the last thing they need is another gadget that won’t fit in a carry-on.
After 34 years and 3 million miles, here’s what I’d actually be happy to unwrap, and what I keep in my own bag: window-seat art for home, travel must-haves, stocking stuffers, and gifts that make long flights shorter.
Bring the Trip Home: Window-Seat Art for the Wall, Desk and Couch
When I’m in my office and not traveling, I like to have reminders of past trips around me. Every frequent flyer has a favorite view from 35,000 feet, and these gifts put it where they’ll see it every day.
Canvas prints for the wall. You can easily and affordably fill a wall with places you’d rather be instead of in an office. Create your dream trip and put it in your space, as a reminder of why you’re putting in the long hours. A few favorites to start with:
- Aerial View of Manhattan Skyline: the New York approach, with the whole island laid out below the wing.
- Aerial View of Swiss Alps Landscape: one of the most-viewed images in my shop this fall.
- Sunset Over Aircraft Wing: the classic window-seat moment every flyer recognizes.
The mouse pad. I love this one because there’s a 787 waiting to go on its next flight, and because of the size. I’d call it the wide-body of mouse pads, with plenty of room to get all the video edits done. See the 787 sunset image.
The giant sherpa blanket. It’s perfect for anyone who likes to wrap the blanket around their feet when getting comfy on the couch. Mine is printed with the Swiss Alps, and I’m constantly looking at it to see how green the valley was while the peaks were still covered in snow. Get the Swiss Alps blanket.
More gifts in the same images:
- Coffee mug for the plane fan, the travel fanatic, or someone planning a big trip
- Ornament for the tree, with a 787 at sunset
- Throw pillow, jigsaw puzzle, or weekender tote bag
- Greeting cards to go with any of the gifts below
Browse everything in my Fine Art America shop. Prints and products are made to order, so order early in the season.

Gear I Actually Carry
These are on my gear page because they’ve earned a permanent spot in my bag, not because they photograph well.
- Cabeau TNE S3 Deluxe Neck Pillow: I’ve gone through 20+ neck pillows over the years. This is the one that stuck: compact, supportive, and it clips to your bag.
- Aecooly Mighty Portable Handheld Fan: a game-changer on hot planes, especially outside the US where the air conditioning is optional.
- TUMI Aerotour 4-Wheel Expandable Carry-On: the splurge. My daily carry-on for years, and it expands when I overpack (which is always).
Travel Must-Haves
- Travelpro Platinum Elite carry-on: a long-time favorite of flight crews, for a lot less than a TUMI.
- Apple AirPods Max: noise cancelling that turns a loud cabin or a packed lounge into a quiet room.
- Etekcity luggage scale: weigh the bag at home, not at the check-in counter.
- Hydro Flask water bottle: fill it after security and stay hydrated on long flights.
Stocking Stuffers Under $25
Small, useful, and they’ll actually get packed.
- The descent kit: pressure-regulating earplugs and a travel-size saline spray, added to the cart in one click. For anyone whose ears hurt on landing; the full story is in my ear pain guide.
- Compact travel power strip: turns one airport outlet into several, and makes friends at the gate.
- Luggage tracker: slip one in a checked bag and they’ll know where it is before the airline does.
- Packing cubes: the easiest way to fit two weeks into a carry-on.
Gifts That Make Long Flights Shorter
No wrapping, no shipping deadline, and they’re used on every flight.
- Audible gift membership: audiobooks for 10-hour flights, downloaded before boarding so Wi-Fi doesn’t matter.
- Kindle Unlimited gift: an endless reading list for the window seat.
- Not sure they’d use it? They can start with an Audible free trial or a Prime free trial, which covers fast shipping on any last-minute travel gear.
The Bottom Line
The best gifts for frequent flyers either make the trip easier or bring the trip home. If you only buy one thing, make it something they’ll use on every flight (a neck pillow that works, or the descent kit). If you want it to feel personal, put their favorite view from the window seat on the wall.
